Basic Information on RCAM Work/Mission Groups :
The RCAM also has Summer Mission/Work Groups come to Maine in the summer from
all over the country to help the RCAM's Housing Program with rehabilitation on
community homes and other RCAM Projects......
Group Information
In order to insure your Mission Workgroup experience is productive and
positive we require a minimum contribution of $2,000.00 and a non-refundable
security deposit of $100.00. This money is used to purchase materials and
supplies for up to a 20-person group. These materials will be used to
rehabilitate and upgrade houses in our 13-town service area. For any group over
20, there is an additional $100.00 charge per person.
What the RCAM Housing Program Will
Provide
for your Summer Workgroup Experience:
1. A description of the living accommodations for your
group.
2. Liability insurance, which will cover the work you do on
people's homes.
3. An orientation which will cover the following:
a) Safety and
working procedures, an explanation of child labor laws and how they
apply to the work sites
b) Description of
projects and people involved
c) Introduction to
the host living site
d) What you can
expect from our RCAM work supervisors
4. RCAM technical supervisory staff and volunteers
5. Materials supplied to the job sites
6. A method of obtaining additional supplies
7. Social Contacts, area events, local church information and
recreational opportunities with
maps of surrounding area FUN!!!
8. Bathroom/washing facilities
9. Use of the RCAM office as a contact point for mail and
phone messages
What the Workgroup Will Provide:
1. A willingness to work!
2. 1 adult supervisor to every 5 young adults, with some leadership
and building skills.
Due to insurance regulations, RCAM requests
groups of 16 years of age and over.
* It is critical that the workgroup
leaders are able to manage the group so RCAM safety
and liability standards are
met.
3. A full work week of eight hours per day, for 4 1/2 days,
unless otherwise arranged prior
to coming.
4. Basic Hand Tools: Hammers, Squares, Hearing Protection,
Nail Aprons, Carpenters
Pencils, 25ft Tape Measure, Work Gloves, Knee Pads,
Any Other Useful Tools, First Aid
Kits and Cell Phones.
5. Copies of Health / Accident Insurance and Parental Release
forms designating group
leaders with permission to authorize
treatment.
