Mission" To encourage and assist low income persons to alleviate hunger and improve nutrition by helping them to grow and preserve their own food."
The RCAM Gardening Program is helping people help themselves to feed their families and improve their health. The Gardening Program provides services in 13 rural and largely low income communities by offering seeds, seedlings, roto-tilling services, research based information, on-site visits to support and encourage success as well as numerous educational garden related workshops. The workshops such as "How to Plant," "Green Manures," "Cover Crops and Composting," "Container Gardening," "Preserving your Harvest by Canning, Freezing and Dehydrating" and "Growing and Using Herbs". To our knowledge the RCAM runs the only program of this type in the state of Maine! The Gardening Program starts up in March/April when our Program Coordinator returns to assist you with planning, planting and harvesting your gardens. Call the RCAM and leave a message to alert the Coordinator with your interest in participating in the Gardening Program. Garden Tools Project:Are you planning a spring cleaning in your garage? Unsure what to do with the extra rakes, hoes, trowels and other gardening implements? The RCAM Gardening Program is starting now to get ready for Spring Planting. We will match up your unneeded tools with families who don't have the means to purchase tools for their gardening projects. You can gain some much needed space and know that your donation is assisting others to learn a new and valuable skill.
